What is inside.

  • Ribbon, styles and themes

    Home, Insert, Design, Layout, References, Review and View tabs hold the commands. A styles gallery previews each style live, and style sets and themes restyle the whole document at once.

  • Tables and page layout

    Tables merge and split cells, repeat header rows and sort. Sections carry their own margins, columns and first, odd and even headers and footers, with page numbers, watermarks and automatic hyphenation.

  • References for long documents

    Insert an updatable table of contents, footnotes and endnotes, captions, cross-references and an index. Citations and bibliographies follow APA, MLA, Chicago or IEEE.

  • Tracked changes and comments

    Track insertions, deletions, formatting changes and moves, then accept or reject them one by one. Comments sit in margin balloons, and Compare shows what changed between two versions.

  • Proofing on your computer

    Spelling, grammar and the thesaurus run locally with no connection needed. AutoCorrect, smart quotes and list autoformat tidy text as you type.

  • Mail merge

    Merge letters, envelopes and labels from a CSV file or an .xlsx or .ods sheet. Address blocks, greeting lines, rules and a preview are in the Mailings tab.

  • Works without a connection

    Editing, proofing, the thesaurus and hyphenation all run on your own computer.

  • Reaches many formats

    Opens and saves .docx, .odt, .rtf, HTML, Markdown and LaTeX, and opens legacy .doc.

  • PDFs people can use

    Exported PDFs keep selectable text, links, bookmarks and document properties.

03 / Workflows

In practice.

  1. Return a contract with changes

    Open the .docx, turn on Track Changes and edit the clauses, leaving comments where you need an answer. Restrict editing so the other side can only comment, then export a PDF copy for the file.

  2. Write a report with references

    Apply heading styles and let the Navigation pane outline the document. Add captions, footnotes and APA citations, insert a table of contents and a bibliography, then export a PDF with links and bookmarks.

  3. Send letters to a client list

    Connect the Mailings tab to a CSV or spreadsheet of clients, insert the address block and greeting line and preview each record. Finish the merge into a document of letters, with matching envelopes or labels.

.docx support has not yet been tested on a wide range of real-world files, and charts, diagram graphics and embedded objects are dropped when a file is saved. Legacy .doc files open read-only.

Good to know.

Can Santre Docs open and save .docx files?
Yes, including tracked changes, comments and password-protected files. It has not yet been tested on a wide range of real-world documents, and charts, diagram graphics and embedded objects are dropped on save, so keep a copy of the original.
Does Santre Docs support tracked changes?
Yes. It tracks insertions, deletions, formatting changes and moves, lets you accept or reject each one, and can compare two versions of a document.
Can Santre Docs export to PDF?
Yes. PDFs keep selectable text, links, a bookmark outline and document properties.
